As I stated in my previous post, keeping gut bacteria in check is a good way to improve overall health. It may also be important for healthy eyes.

As we now know, gut bacteria changes are being linked to Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). With this being the case, improving gut health may help to prevent and/or treat AMD in the future.

But for right now, there are plenty of other Reasons to Improve Gut Bacteria. And if you plan on making a change, dietary modifications should be the first step.

Yogurt, Berry & Oats Parfait:

This week’s recipe is a simple one. It’s a great idea for a quick breakfast on the go, or even a healthy dessert option. Personally, I think a pro-biotic centric breakfast is a great way to start the day. Especially with all of the other questionable breakfast options out there.

Ingredients:

This particular recipe is good for one serving:

  • 1 cup of plain, full-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup of fresh organic blueberries (rinsed & dried)
  • 1/4 cup of gluten-free oats
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey
  • 1 teaspoon of Ceylon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of ginger
  • Add a pinch of turmeric (for an anti-inflammatory boost)
  • Keep a few dark chocolate squares on the side (for added enjoyment).

Instructions:

Use a small bowl to mix the spices together. Then, add in the yogurt and mix it all up. Next, choose your serving cup (any type of glass or a mason jar should work well) and begin to layer the ingredients.

First, drop half the yogurt in the bottom of the cup, then use the oats for the next layer. Sprinkle some honey on top of the oats for added sweetness. Follow that up with the remaining yogurt and the spice mix. You can add another pinch of cinnamon on top of the second yogurt layer.

Top it all off with the blueberries (and maybe a bit more honey for good measure).

Be creative.

Have a great weekend & enjoy !!
